Amman Comedy Club completes the training phase of the “Comedy Lab” training project held in Amman and Irbid

 Amman – Jordan: Amman Comedy Club, along with Mateen Foundation announce the successful completion of the second training phase that took place in Amman and Irbid, with 54 participants from all over Jordan, the training project aimed to develop and improve their comedic writing skills and talents.

The participants praised the overall organization and style of the training sessions, which took place virtually over Zoom, through two separate phases. In Amman, the first phase of training took place in March 26th till March 30th, where the second phase was in April 9th till May 23 May; while in parallel, Irbid participants joined the online courses between the 2nd and 6th of April, and the 9th of April until the 25th of May. Through the different sessions, the organizers focused on the style of comedic writing, as well as coaching participants through idea generation, comedy improvisation and much more, all presented by a team of professionals in the field of comedy from the Second City Training Center in the US and Amman Comedy Club in Jordan.

Commenting on the success of the program, Amman Comedy Club Executive Director and trainer, Yazan Abu Al Rous commented, “We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with this number of talented individuals over the last 12 weeks, We hope that this course will be the stepping stone in seeing them succeed as comedic writers and actors across different platforms in the near future”

Mateen Executive Director, Dr. Hala Al Hashlamoun praised the achievements of the partnership with Amman Comedy Club with the support of the American Embassy in Jordan, describing the conclusion of the training course as a complete success, taking into consideration the effects of the global pandemic, commenting, “The fact that we were able to overcome the obstacles resulting from the pandemic to create a unique team bond with the participants further strengthened the success of this course is a huge step itself. While the addition of interactive sessions and teamwork garnered us a result that we are really proud of.”

The “Comedy Lab” project came to life as a gift from the American Embassy in Jordan, aiming to create a new generation of comedians who can highlight improvisational comedy both locally and abroad, as well as hone young talents in the field of writing and performing through Mateen and Amman Comedy Club.

About Amman Comedy Club

Amman Comedy Club was launched as an initiative in 2019, and is considered as the first of its kind in Jordan and the Arab world which aims at promoting the culture of comedy in the region. The club has trained more than hundred talents participants in stand up comedy, satire writing, Improv comedy and comedy sketch writing, it organized a number of standup comedy events and comedy content creation courses.
